ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana

ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (ICAR-NRCB) initiated the Hindi Pakhwada on 15th September 2026 to promote the use of Hindi as the official language and encourage its use among the officials of the institute.

The Official Language Implementation Committee (OLIC) of ICAR-NRCB organized five different events, namely Hindi Writing, Noting and Drafting, Singing–Karaoke, News Reading/Speech, and Quiz Competition, among the staff members from 15th to 29th September 2026. More than 40 participants enthusiastically participated in these events.

As part of the concluding programme of Hindi Pakhwada was celebrated on 6th October 2026. On this occasion, Dr. G. Aghila, Director, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, was the Chief Guest. The programme began with tree planting and the release of fish fingerlings at the Institute Research Farm. Subsequently, Dr. R. Selvarajan, Director, ICAR-NRCB, briefed the Chief Guest about the activities and achievements of center. She also visited the Institute Research farm, Precision Farming Unit and the Common Incubation Centre, followed by her participation in the Hindi Day celebration.

Mr. Varun Mittal, Administrative Officer and Member Secretary, OLIC, briefed the gathering about the various events organized during Hindi Pakhwada.
Dr. R. Selvarajan, Director, ICAR-NRCB and Chairman, OLIC, delivered the Presidential Address. He explained the importance of celebrating Hindi Day and emphasized that learning an additional language would enhance communication skills and facilitate interaction with people across the country. He highlighted that Hindi is spoken by the 80 crore people in India and that learning and speaking Hindi would help officials work comfortably in different parts of the country. He also emphasized that language can contribute to greater unity in a diverse nation. He appreciated the award winners, participants, and members of the organizing committee for their active involvement in the Hindi Pakhwada celebrations.

The Chief Guest, Dr. G. Aghila, Director, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, addressed the gathering and congratulated the Director and the entire ICAR-NRCB team for the institute’s achievements and progress over the years. She appreciated the involvement of staffs in promoting the Hindi language in science and administration. She emphasized the importance of language learning and stated that learning Hindi would also be very useful for effective communication and interaction. She appreciated the Hindi Pakhwada activities organized at ICAR-NRCB and congratulated all the prize winners. She highlighted fruitful collaboration existing between NIT Tiruchirappalli and ICAR-NRCB in the areas of academic activities and research. Dr. K. J. Jeyabaskaran, Principal Scientist and Member, OLIC, delivered the welcome address & Dr. A. Mohanasundaram, Principal Scientist and Co-Chairman, OLIC, delivered the vote of thanks.
