ICAR–NRCB Participated in Mega Seminar and Exhibition on South Indian Fruits Festival & Food Forest Cultivation


ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (ICAR–NRCB), Tiruchirappalli, participated in the Mega Seminar and Exhibition on South Indian Fruits Festival & Food Forest Cultivation, held on 14 June 2026 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Tiruchirappalli, organized by the Isha Cauvery Calling.The programme mainly focused on “Development of Food Forest with available resources”. More than 6,000 farmers and members of the public attended the event. On the occasion, Dr. R. Selvarajan, Director, emphasized the importance of restoring soil health through tree-based agriculture. He noted that declining soil organic matter and biological activity have reduced the efficiency of fertilizers over the years. He highlighted that sustainable farming practices are essential for improving soil fertility and productivity. He also introduced the newly developed banana variety ‘Cauvery’, which contains low sucrose and is suitable for diabetic patients. He further stated that farmers can enhance their income by producing more than 40 value-added products from banana.As part of the Programme, ICAR–NRCB showcased more than 50 banana varieties, tissue-cultured banana plants, and various technologies developed by the Centre. The exhibition attracted considerable interest from farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and other stakeholders. Dr. C. Karpagam delivered a special address on the activities of ICAR–NRCB, the services provided by the Centre, and various schemes and opportunities available for stakeholders.The participation of ICAR–NRCB in the event provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate scientific knowledge, promote innovative banana technologies, and strengthen outreach among farmers and agripreneurs.
