Current Institute Projects:
Current External Projects:
  1. Effect of Elevated CO₂ on Nematode Dynamics: Elevated CO₂ (550 ppm) was found to reduce Meloidogyne incognita populations while improving tomato growth, suggesting a useful strategy for nematode management under climate change.
  2. Screening of Rice Germplasm and Wild Oryza Species: Screening of 1,600 rice lines and 20 wild Oryza species identified O. eichingeri, O. grandiglumis, and O. brachyantha as resistant to M. graminicola.
  3. Methodological Innovation: A new Sedgewick–Rafter slide technique was developed for simultaneous nematode identification and quantification, improving accuracy and efficiency.
  4. High-Altitude Faunal Diversity Study: The first study on wheat-associated fauna in the Nilgiris recorded 124 species, and one image from the study appeared on the cover of Current Science.
  5. GIS-Based Nematode Hotspot Mapping: GIS tools were used to locate nematode hotspots in hilly regions, aiding spatial monitoring and management.
  6. Identification of Alternate Weed Hosts: Five new weed species were identified as alternate hosts of M. graminicola for the first time.
  7. New Host Record from India: Meloidogyne hapla was reported for the first time on Parthenium hysterophorus in India.
  8. Cropping System Influence on Nematode Ecology: Inclusion of wheat and mustard in Nilgiris cropping systems increased soil nematode diversity, and non-incorporated mustard did not always reduce plant-parasitic nematodes.
  9. Integrated Nematode Management: An integrated management module for M. incognita in tuberose was developed under Tamil Nadu conditions.
